  13. I spoke by phone with Sherman Skolnick of the Citizens' Committee 
  14. to Clean-up the Courts [CCCC]. Here is my transcription of that

  95. phone to record the message. And I, my idea was, I went to Radio 
  96. Shack and they told me that there was this kind of a gizmo, O.K.?

  100. Yeah, right. It costs about $21 and you plug it directly into the 
  101. modular phone line and then into your machine, and it records 
  102. directly from the line without any hum or problem.

  138. O.K. A few questions that came up, all right, was with the 
  139. Barings Bank, uh -- it's a relatively small bank. You know, like 
  140. a billion dollar failure...

  144. Well that's not accurate.

  152. The total estimated, or expected losses may well exceed over $10 
  153. billion. And to understand that, you have to consult with experts 
  154. on derivatives.

  158. Um-hmm [understands].

  161. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  162. In unwinding a derivative trade that has gone bad, it depends on 
  163. the instruments that are involved. Here what was involved is the 
  164. price of yen and related matters. While they're unwinding these 
  165. transactions, the yen... um, not the yen (excuse me), the Nikei 
  166. Index may go down 2,000 points. And if that occurs, as some in 
  167. the securities industry expect (although they haven't been asked 
  168. about it or quoted in the financial press), if that occurs, that 
  169. the [Nikei] Index goes down 2,000 points, then the loss of the 
  170. derivative transactions that have gone sour will be very close to 
  171. *10* *billion* *dollars*. Not one billion, and not 900 million, 
  172. but $10 billion.

  180. It depends on the unwinding of the trades. Because the 
  181. derivatives transactions in question here were highly complicated 
  182. and are tied in with the Nikei Index.

  187. right? This thing goes out to a lot of readers and I get some 
  188. feedback from them. And it occurred to me that, now I had a

  212. Understand something: um, how can I explain this quickly? As a 
  213. result of our efforts for over 30-some odd years in investigating 
  214. judicial corruption, over the years we've found out that such 
  215. corruption involves banks that are owned and operated by judges 
  216. and others. As a result, we became, we have become very adept at 
  217. financial research. And we have sources all over. And we have 
  218. talked to those sources, and they estimate that the loss, when 
  219. the Barings Bank transactions get unwound, would be close to $10 
  220. billion.

  224. O.K. Along the line of sources, I know that you can't reveal 
  225. these people, but I'm thinking more in terms of, uh you had 
  226. mentioned before that you read, for example, the *Wall Street 
  227. Journal*. Are there other sources out there, as for reading, that 
  228. you would recommend?

  231. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  232. Well I would find it interesting, in the future, what the 
  233. *Economist*, which now is trying to get a larger readership in 
  234. the United States, that's a...

  238. That's a London...

  242. ....that's a London publication [CN -- a magazine], what their 
  243. next issue on this question may deal with. They may take a purely 
  244. British point of view, or they may take a point of view 
  245. sympathetic to the Queen's interest in Barings. Although the 
  246. Queen, also, has a stock brokerage -- I believe they're called 
  247. COATS(?) -- that handles, traditionally, a lot of the business of 
  248. the British monarchy.

  252. O.K. So the *Wall Street Journal*, the *Economist*, there's...

  256. Oh, you mean to get a clear idea of what's going on?

  260. Yeah. Just some of the stuff you read.

  264. ....none of these publications, in my opinion, are gonna tell the 
  265. unvarnished truth about what is involved. And I can give the 
  266. reasons for that.

  269. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  270. Because they all have their own special interests behind 'em? 
  271. Or...

  274. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  275. Well... Let me just list a few of the problems. One of the 
  276. largest securities firms in the world, Nomura Securities, N-o-m- 
  277. u-r-a, reportedly is, and has been, in worse financial condition 
  278. than Barings. However, the Bank of Japan, and others, may bail 
  279. them out. But some brokerages are quietly "red-flagging" them, 
  280. which is a trade term for avoiding somebody. For example, when 
  281. some brokerages became aware that there was a problem in Mexico, 
  282. they "red-flagged" Mexico. That's the way they tell their troops, 
  283. "No transactions with them" -- you see the point?
  284.

  286. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  287. Yeah.
  288.  
  289.  
  290. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  291. Likewise, Goldman-Sachs has come within a hair, reportedly, of 
  292. going under in respect to the "Mexican problem" -- the 
  293. devaluation and the expected defaults by Mexican corporations.

  295. So the financial press, to help the established interests, wish 
  296. to play down the Barings thing as much as they possibly can as a, 
  297. just another "minor matter". Which I don't believe it is.

  300. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  301. O.K. There's a newsletter called *Strategic Investment*, put out 
  302. by Lord Rees-Mogg...
  303.

  305. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  306. Right! I read it. I get copies. I don't subscribe, but friends of 
  307. mine send me copies from time to time.

  310. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  311. Same... Yeah. Same with me.

  313. I uh... In their latest issue, they're talkin' about this thing 
  314. about how Clinton's puttin' up what they call a "Berlin Wall" to 
  315. keep dollars from fleeing the country. Have you heard anything 
  316. about that?

  319. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  320. Well what I know that's related to it is, the dollar is hitting, 
  321. more and more, new, post-war lows. And the reason for that is 
  322. that expert traders in the dollar are expecting the possibility 
  323. that the *Deutschmark* will be the new, reserve currency of the 
  324. world, rather than the U.S. dollar. And that is based on 
  325. information that Clinton and his wife are "going to the wall" 
  326. [i.e. will face some degree of justice] soon.

  329. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  330. O.K.

  333. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  334. In other words, well, there's been leaks from the investigation 
  335. by the independent prosecutor which supports the idea that the 
  336. First Lady is, in the near future, most likely gonna be indicted. 
  337. And that will put a tremendous cloud over the Clinton White 
  338. House. And so, in advance of that, the dollar is being dumped -- 
  339. let's put it that way.

  343. O.K. I'm just basically, for myself, I'm watchin' the *Wall 
  344. Street Journal* myself and just noticin' the dollar/yen thing, 
  345. how that's...

  349. Notice the split in the *Wall Street Journal*: those that work on 
  350. the editorial page continue with their detailed items, which are 
  351. more *news* items than editorials, about Whitewater. The other 
  352. day they had a, um...

  356. I saw it. Yeah.

  359. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  360. ....a front-page story that "pooh-poohed" Whitewater. The 
  361. editorials are closer to the truth than the front-page story -- 
  362. which is a different faction within the *Wall Street Journal*. (I 
  363. know a lot about the back office politics of the *Wall Street 
  364. Journal*.)

  368. O.K. Yeah, like I say, this, I'm gonna have to keep this 
  369. relatively brief. I mean, there's a *lot* of things...

  373. Well then cut out those parts that you feel are not relevant.

  377. No, it's *all* relevant, 'til now. I'm just sayin' that I have to 
  378. kind of move along. You know, I'm lookin' for, at this point, 
  379. maybe a 10, 15 minute interview. Because I plan on transcribin'

  384. All right, what subjects do you particularly want to get into?

  387. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  388. There's just a few questions that people had, O.K.? And you've 
  389. answered, so far, fine; I'm happy with the answers you've given 
  390. me so far. And I'd like to get into more detail. You know, my 
  391. idea is, maybe call you up once a week, ten, fifteen minutes, and 
  392. just kinda, you know, "flesh out" things, and...

  395. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  396. My opinion is that the Barings Bank collapse is not an isolated 
  397. event. It is part of an ongoing series of scandals which, of 
  398. which the Whitewater scandal and the scandal, the series of 
  399. scandals in Italy, and in France -- there's some overriding 
  400. connection between them. In other words, different factions are 
  401. coming out of joint and are fighting with each other, and this is 
  402. what happens. And the financial press is *not* making any sense 
  403. out of it; they're dealt with as if they're all isolated 
  404. situations -- which they may not be.

  407. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  408. O.K. With this (movin' to a different subject), with this thing 
  409. of the 41 grand jury witnesses in Chicago, that you're sayin' 
  410. that the Justice Department has got an assassination team that 
  411. has been killin' people...

  414. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  415. Uh, yes. The ones that originally contended that were the highly 
  416. skilled lawyers, including the former Attorney General, Elliott 
  417. Richardson, that represented the Inslaw company. And in rebuttal 
  418. to former judge Nicholas J. Bua's report on the grand jury 
  419. investigation of whether Inslaw was defrauded by the Justice 
  420. Department, Inslaw's attorneys filed certain detailed 
  421. descriptions, offering witnesses, that there is within the 
  422. Justice Department [an] unmarked section where there is a group 
  423. there that conducts domestic and foreign assassinations, and that 
  424. *they* were responsible for killing a key witness, a free-lance 
  425. journalist, by the name of Danny Casolaro.

  428. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  429. Yeah, O.K. What, what some of my readers were interested in is 
  430. possibly a list of the names of the victims. I mean, you don't 
  431. have to read, you know, it out over the phone. I was thinking 
  432. maybe I would contact you by mail, askin' for a list of the 
  433. victims if you have...

  436. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  437. I think we have compiled a great number of names. In a federal 
  438. court case that we brought, in the Fall of '92, on this question, 
  439. we accused Bua and others who were supervising the Inslaw federal 
  440. grand jury of not paying attention to the fact that *their* team 
  441. of investigators were in fact terrorizing and murdering 
  442. witnesses.

  445. CONSPIRACY NATION:

  450. And we accuse, in the court record, a FBI agent named Mike 
  451. "Chuckie" Peters of the same.

  456. posted out on the Internet.

  464. And one other thing that people have kind of asked me questions 
  465. about is this thing that Tsar Nicholas II and the Tsarina and 
  466. their family were not actually killed in 1918.

  470. Well there have been a couple of books on this subject. And I 
  471. myself, in '74, with a group of my associates, went to New York 
  472. to spend two whole days interviewing Alexei Romanov, who contends 
  473. (and I believe he's correct) that he is the surviving son of Tsar 
  474. Nicholas II, and that his family were *not* murdered, as history 
  475. books state, in a basement in Siberia...

  478. CONSPIRACY NATION:
  479. All right, so...
  480.

  482. SHERMAN SKOLNICK:
  483. ....but that they lived out their lives, protected by their 
  484. cousins, the British royal family, and that they were housed, 
  485. under another name, in Poland. And it's... well, you'd have to 
  486. know a lot about history, you'd have to know a lot about this 
  487. question, to understand the validity of what I'm saying.

  489. Most of the royal families of Europe -- Russia, Germany, and 
  490. England -- are cousins. They're related...
  491.

  494. Yeah.

  498. ....through Queen Victoria. And, so the uh... And, in 1970, in one 
  499. edition only, the *Chicago Tribune* wrote a story about this, 
  500. confirming from inside sources that the Tsar, his wife, and their 
  501. children were rescued and were not murdered in Ekaterenberg(?), 
  502. Siberia, as some had contended.

  525. Tsar Nicholas and his family being shot by the Bolsheviks, from 
  526. 1918.

  540. *Romanov* private fortune -- have a great interest to circulate 
  541. those false stories. Otherwise they might have to disgorge the 
  542. money.

  550. And they were the ones that financed the movie, in the early 
  551. '70s, called "Nicholas and Alexandra". And at the close of the 
  552. movie, it shows... uh, you know: the Tsar and his family being 
  553. shot to death.

  555. You mean there's an *actual* movie of it happening? It's not 
  556. true.

  573. Oh, you mean that recent stuff that came out of the post-Soviet 
  574. period there? I don't believe any of it.

  582. And *you* wouldn't believe any of it either, if you had spent two 
  583. entire days questioning and examining, you know, uh questioning 
  584. Alexei Romanov. I mean, he's got the Tsarist family face, which 
  585. cannot -- I mean, I brought artists along to look at that face! 
  586. You can't reproduce that face. You can't fake-up that face.

  588. Further than that, since he was a hemophiliac, as a child he wore 
  589. braces. And we discussed some inside things about that, some of 
  590. the things about wearing braces (which, of course, I'm a 
  591. paraplegic myself) that he could not have known otherwise.

  593. I mean, we tested him out on every possible aspect. And he didn't 
  594. flunk a single question, no.

  598. All right, and what about this Anastasia? I myself am not totally 
  599. positive on this. It seems to me that... I mean, I know there was 
  600. this controversy over this woman...

  604. Well... the, what happened is, at the time that the Rockefellers 
  605. sponsored the Nicholas and Alexandra movie, to promote, to 
  606. further promote the idea that the Tsar had been murdered, the 
  607. reason for it is, the German high court at that time (which is 
  608. about 1971) had the case of a woman who used the name "Marian 
  609. Anderson", but who claimed that she was the surviving daughter, 
  610. Anastasia Romanov...

  614. Um-hmm [understands].

  618. ....the daughter of the Tsar. And she did not succeed in court, 
  619. but that does not mean that she didn't necessarily have a valid 
  620. case.

  622. And then in the '50s, about 1957, um... what's her name? The 
  623. famous actress... did a movie called "Anastasia".

  627. Yeah, I know the... I've heard of the movie. And I can't recall 
  628. the actress either. [CN -- Ingrid Bergman(?)]

  634. In other words, there's been various efforts to further circulate 
  635. and promote these false stories that the Tsar, the Tsarina, and 
  636. their children were murdered. It did *not* happen. Those that... 
  637. And the story that ran in one edition of the *Tribune* in 1970 is 
  638. a *correct* story. They have never taken it back. They have never 
  639. corrected it.

  643. O.K. I just want to close with sayin' most of my readers are very 
  644. interested in your material. And I'm real happy that you're 
  645. givin' me a chance to kind of expand on, you know, these things
